About Beyond Pilgrimage
Beyond Pilgrimage is a multi-part video series resource examining a Christ-centred response to injustice in Palestine/Israel, unpacking harmful theologies, and exploring prayerful and practical action towards reconciliation, justice, and peace. Aimed to facilitate learning and a collective response from Christian faith communities globally.
Across five episodes we journey through the Holy Land, hearing from Palestinian Christians, Jewish activists, theologians, journalists, academics, human rights defenders, Bedouin, humanitarians, and more.
Key Palestinian voices include, Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac, Omar Haramy, Dr. Lamma Mansour, Samuel Munayer, and Daoud Nassar, among others, with input from international voices like Rev. Dr. Mae Elise Cannon and Lisa Sharon Harper.
Supported by Aotearoa Christians for Peace in Palestine, photo and video journalist Cole Martin, spent nine months on the ground in Palestine in Israel during 2024 and 2025, filming for the resource.
What are the episodes?
1. A Church Complicit – Why is this an inherently Christian issue? What role did the church and Zionist theology play instigating this injustice and fueling the atrocities today? We examine Christian involvement, weaponised theology, and its direct impact on Palestinian Christians.
2. The Fruits of Zionism – What is the reality on the ground today? What does ‘Apartheid’, settler colonialism, and ethnic cleansing look like in real time? We visit those on the frontlines of settler violence, house demolitions, arbitrary detention, and systematic injustice to hear their struggles and see the reality firsthand.
3. Theology of the land – What is the Nakba? What happened in 1948? Why do millions of Palestinians remain refugees today? And how was scripture used to frame ethnic cleansing as prophetic fulfilment? We examine the roots of Israeli domination and the warped theology that blindly supports the displacement, structural violence, injustice, and daily atrocities.
4. Gaza: A moral compass – What is happening in Gaza? What is genocide? How are these atrocities impacting Christian communities in Gaza? And how has church silence and ignorance directly fuelled the conditions for dehumanisation, war crimes, and genocide?
5. A Christ-centred Response – How do we respond to this horror? What does it look like to confront Zionism and structural injustice globally? And how do we embody our prayers with radically loving non-violent action? We examine the Jesus-centred roadmap for walking humbly and boldly in pursuit of justice, reconciliation, and peace for those on the ground – and across the world.
Invitation to Partner With Beyond Pilgrimage
Join us in bringing a Christ-centred, justice-shaped conversation to the global Church
Across the world, churches are wrestling with how to respond faithfully to the ongoing injustice in Palestine and Israel. Beyond Pilgrimage was created to meet this moment with theological depth, lived experience, and a pastoral pathway for Christian communities seeking to understand, lament, and act.
This project has been carried almost entirely by volunteer labour, especially from our producer and videographer, Cole Martin, who has brought the series to this stage without compensation. Now, as we finalise the series for release, we’re inviting a small number of organisations to become co-sponsors and endorsing partners.
Your partnership will make this resource accessible to churches everywhere—free from paywalls and rooted in the witness of Palestinian Christians and others on the ground.
Why partner with Beyond Pilgrimage?
1. Amplify a resource your community needs.
Your endorsement helps us reach churches who are discerning how to respond to injustice without becoming partisan, polarised, or paralysed.
2. Stand alongside Palestinian Christian voices.
Co-sponsorship signals your commitment to elevating voices often overshadowed by political narratives and harmful theologies.
3. Strengthen the global Christian conversation.
This series offers churches a grounded, Christ-centred roadmap for discipleship, solidarity, and nonviolent action.
What co-sponsorship involves
Co-sponsors can contribute in three meaningful ways:
Official Endorse the Resource: Organisations can partner by endorsing the project, adding their organisations weight behind the project.
Share With Your Community: For all who have endorsed, we will give you email and social media templates to share widely with your community/network, bringing the resource to a wider audience.
(Optional) Financial Support: We’re collectively raising funds for licensing, design, editing, accessibility, and global promotion. We encourage contributions from those who can. Any contribution helps.
